Technical Information Regarding Body & Clone Types
The birth of the Sybarites began with the original "Malice" sculpt. From Malice, the various final sculpts or "clones" were created. Each clone was given a number to identify it from the others. Clone #0101 is the "Venus" clone, which is used only for limited edition Studio and one-of-a-kind Sybarites. Clone #0102 the "DC" clone is also exclusively used for Studio and one-of-a-kind dolls. ** The DC sculpt was used for the exclusive Paris event doll named "Librium" in March of 2010 to celebrate 5 years of the Sybarites. This was the first non-studio doll the sculpt was used for.** Still other clones, such as #0103, #0104, etc. are used for the dolls mass-produced in the Orient, although there are a few one-of-a-kind Sybarites using these other clones that exist.
I have listed the clones in the following way for identification on this site:
clone: 0101 Vd'R (Venus d'Royce sculpt)
clone: 0102 DCd'R (DC d'Royce sculpt)
There have been far fewer of the #0102 DCd'R one-of-a-kind Sybarites made than the #0101 Vd'R to date.
The one-of-a-kind Sybarites are made of resin, stand 17 inches tall, have 17 points of articulation and are ball-jointed with strung bodies. They are hand assembled, faces are hand painted with applied eyelashes, and they are clothed in only the finest haute couture designs in the Superfrock studio in London, England.
Body Types
There have been two body types, or "Generations" used to date. They are named Generation I and Generation II. They will be identified by collection below. The Generation I body was articulated by hand, and the Generation II body was done by computer. The most noticeable differences between the two types being the legs and hands of the dolls.
Chalk White™
The first one-of-a-kind Sybarites were called the "Chalk White" dolls. This name does not stand for the resin type used. It was the name given to the UK made dolls by Charles and Desmond. The resin had a nice heavy weight to it and a rather pale appearance. These dolls were made completely in the UK. The body components were made there, and the dolls were hand finished, strung, hand painted and dressed in one-of-a-kind couture outfits. The Chalk White dolls were retired in mid 2007 when the UK based facility which made the body components closed. This led to the use of the French resin.
The Chalk White Sybarites from collections Tzotzie, Mascara, Flowers of Romance, and *OPERA_ had the Generation I body type. The bodies were marked, "SDMDR 2004/5."
Dolls from the final Chalk White collection, Selfmedication & anti_ticulation had the Generation II body type. The bodies are marked "THE SYBARITES™ © 2006/7" and that was brushed over with gold paint.
French Resin
The French resin is much lighter in weight and has a more porcelain-like appearance than the first type. Sybarites made in the French Resin from collections GHB and the Autopilots have Generation II bodies and also have the "THE SYBARITES™ © 2006/7" marking. The French resin dolls have been given the Vd'R 0106 F/R number.
The most recent one-of-a-kind collection, WAR, is considered the "manic_cure" style, which is a Generation II body with the manic_cure hands. Dolls from this collection use the Venus d'Royce sculpt in the French Resin.
Return of Chalk White™
The official announcement was made by Superfrock in September of 2008 that the Chalk White one-of-a-kind Sybarites would return.
The first collection of the new one-of-a-kind Chalk White dolls, named "Resurection," was shown at the Moscow Doll Salon in October of 2008.
This collection of dolls used the Generation III body type. There were no body markings as on the previous Chalk White dolls.
